archop is a response to the need for an improved built environment in the San Joaquin Valley. Recognizing that we are at a critical point in shaping the future of this cities and region, we extend an invitation to the design community and public to participate in quarterly exhibitions and discussions. Our culture, our city, and our architecture stand to benefit from an open discussion about these topics. We welcome your thoughts, ideas, concepts, projects, opinions, and experiences.
history
The concept of archop was born in August of 2007 from an evening conversation in the office of the Taylor Teter Partnership between architect Paul Halajian AIA and associates Jamie Dronyk, Kiel Famellos-Schmidt, and Shaunt Yemenjian. The questions that guided the conversation was what are the hurdles that stand in the way of a vibrant built environment in Fresno? and How do we get over those hurdles? The consensus was that education through public events and advocacy where essential to our goals.
Kiel drafted this idea into a plan and with Paul brought it to the American Institute of Architects San Joaquin chapter Board of Directors. The board, with the leadership of Theo Bluhm AIA, was extremely supportive of the archop’s mission and approach. Planning moved forward for the first archop on October 4th 2007. Since then exhibits have been held quarterly growing in scale, attendance and relevance.
